2010 - Its a Wrap...belated done & dusted EVENTS report....2011 EVENTS coming soon!

After a harsh 2010 winter (resulting in some major hibernation by most of the Pain Train) it was time to get off the couch, start losing some weight and get into some events......
as Slacky of the Bushlove sifters has pointed out, we are more about doing events than actually racing them (which makes our results not worth googling....).

Riding events with your fellow Pain Train friends and associates, is certainly a good excuse when an excuse is needed for a less than slightly above average performance we normally aspire too.....
Check our report below - as far as events go, we have the results to prove we are good at participating, but there are definitely no results to give us an excuse to open a jar of FIGJAM........although we tried opening a bag of chips while riding and its not that easy!

August 2010: NZ Cyclocross (CX) champs "EVENT"

.....and fundraiser for Charlie "Chucky" Redwood went down a treat, with perfect weather for it (cold, wet, sunny, raining, windy and almost snowing). We managed to raise over $2000 so thanks to all who participated and donated their time as well as $ towards helping out a great cause. Chuck is doing great too, so good work fighting that cancer off buddy! Oh yeah results wise, we got a couple in the top 10, but really who cares......we all participated and that's what matters eh.

FYI: Queenstown are taking the CX champs on this year (in conjunction with the winter festival) but we maybe doing a series.....watch this BLOG space.

September 2010: Daynighter 12 hour team "EVENT":

Il treno Dolore got a motley crew of unfit and fat older dudes together to try and win something = fail (we were even "sponsored" by Aliways Windows and Doors). Excuse cards were played early by all - "I'm sick, I don't like doing the day nighter, I haven't ridden for months, my seat is 5mm too high, I'm 6kg overweight" blah blah blah......

As first losers, we did beat last years winners (in the last 2 very muddy laps where Frodo and especially The Germinator, rode like men possessed to push us out to a 2 minute lead) so battling it out with Carwyn's crew from Taupo sure kept us on our toes, but the winning team from Palmy had bolted.....little did we know.
Still 6th overall and we beat the Hammers young guns (who won the junior division) so even though twice as old, we are still faster in the end (it took awhile to over take them) and enjoyed the "event" for what it is - a good excuse to drink beers and coffee afterwards FTW. Thanks to Vincenzo for being team manager (due to broken leg), although he bailed on us half way through, due to our the lack of commitment to the cause I think (or maybe that was his excuse). Next time KD Rains needs to bring a better attitude (like Guru's) and focker to share his not so secret eat more pies, no riding winter diet, as he still pulls a fast lap or 3 outa the bag when he has too.......

October 2010: World Singlespeed champs "Event":

At rego on Friday night, it would be fare to say we were worried everyone else was taking this whole thing too seriously.....we were in costume already, drinking up some beers (losing Wazza and Cool hand in the process until early hours of the morning) and wondering if anyone else was going to get into the spirit - and where were the lovers of the Bush??

Race?...Event day dawned a cracker and as we wearily rode from our accommodation to the start, our fears of nooooooo-one dressing up were soon removed - in a word WOW! The Animal muppet dude, disco man and Ron's super camo outfit were some of the more impressive costumes (as well as some the ladies not so camouflaged bodies ;-).
The start was chaos for everyone (as promised by Dean and Marcus) so get over it if you bombed getting out the gate first (smart money was to be right next to Garth though), because to be honest, unless you were a top 5 contender, no one cared anyway! Racing wise, well we knew this was an event with a race within a race - first to the beer tent was the winner on the day between us Pain Trainers (Vincenzo got it) and that's where most of us stayed after doing only one lap. The speights girls kindly gave us more supplies (until they had run out) and we even drank other riders beers that didn't realise they had to drink (so why go through the beer shortcut and then complain about it - dupe!). Highlight was seeing Garth skull then sprint FTW with Rad Ross - awesome! Some of the boys headed for lap 2, while the rest of us enjoyed watching all the carnival stylz freakshow's riding around having an amazing time......except for maybe 1 or 2 people who had trained hard expecting to get world rankings or something - WTF? "Google the name, the results speak for themselves" eh mr B. On the day, Garth and the Aussie chick were the winners, closely followed by all the competitors who entered it because they knew it was an EVENT,  so dressed up and partied accordingly!
